Under 14’s Tour Page

The squad has just returned from their spring tour to Lille and were unbeaten in two games.

The first was played over 100 miles from our base in Lille. We played in Kortenaken, Belgium where the opposition were FC Sporta Hoeleden.

The journey took over 3 hours and we were expected to play as soon as we arrived due to a tournament taking place straight after our game. Not the greatest preparation and it showed in the first 15 minutes.

The players were slow to start the game and the skilful opposition were soon attacking our goal at will. Soon after, they scored the opening goal and we looked a beaten side already. Slowly but surely we got into the game and Ryan equalised with a well taken goal.

We saw the half out level and the players were now settled.

Sporta started the better again and scored again to lead for the second time. Ryan was caught offside 4 times by the referee, who didn't want linesmen, when he was clearly onside.
Luke scored to level the game again and things got a little tense on the field. The opposition obviously were not used to losing but found themselves pegged back twice.

Ryan then scored with a cracking lob over the advancing keeper to give us the lead for the first time.

Sporta levelled with just 4 minutes to go and the game finished a fair 3-3. We can claim victory on away goals though!!

The host club looked after us after the game and provided the lads with drinks and food. There was a tournament on after us and the club house was open, pleasing all the parents!

Day two saw us face local French opposition, ES Lille Louvière Pellevoisin. We played on a 3rd Generation pitch, which was new to most players. It didn't take the lads long to settle and Ryan opened the scoring. Lille equalised before half time and the score remained that way until the break.

It was baking hot out there on the pitch but we continued to play good football against a very good technical side.

Kieren scored his first goal of the tour and the home side seemed to wilt at this point in the heat.

Callum crossed into the box but the central defender put through his own net. He had been first class up to that point and was unlucky. With the extra goal, Lille pushed forward and left gaps at the back. Ryan found himself free and finished the game off with his second and the teams fourth.

Once again, the opposition treated us well after the game and fed and watered the lads and parents.

From there we all headed out for a meal altogether at a local restaurant. It wasn't to everyone's taste but was a chance for everyone to get together and enjoy the last night.

Overall, the tour was a roaring success. Everyone had a great time and the lads played some great football.

Thanks must go to everyone on the tour for helping to make it a success.
